This update to Nova 2 addresses issues with errors thrown after turning post participants off and benchmarking pseudo-variables not working right because of the Template engine. In addition, we have updated the jQuery UI to version 1.8.18.
After spending several days tracking down the upload issue, we’ve identified it as a server issue either related to the latest release of PHP 5.2 or a specific setting. A fix is available on AnodyneXtras under the Nova 2 Utilities tab.
You can download the latest version of Nova 2 at the Nova site.
When it comes to a new major release, there are always lots of little things that have been changed or updated that aren’t immediately clear. What follows is a list of those types of things in Nova 2 that you might not have noticed.
- In the Writing Control Panel, an icon will appear near a post, log, or news item if it’s been commented on in the last 30 days. That icon links to the entry in question and jumps you down to the comments section.
- For anyone doing a fresh install of the DS9 genre, you’ll find there are 5 new rank colors included. Though they aren’t used by default, you can use them throughout Nova for whatever you want. (The rank images are included if you did an update from Nova 1, but we didn’t update anyone’s ranks, so you’ll have to manually add those colors in Rank Management.)
- Hovering over the magnifying glass in your inbox will show you a short preview of the private message.
- When reading a private message, the Reply to All button will only appear if there’s more than one person to reply to.
- When uploading images, Nova pulls the configuration information to tell the user how big (in terms of dimensions) the image can be.
- Nova keeps track of who’s participated in multi-author mission post. When post it to the site, Nova checks the list of who participated and who was on the post and if someone is on the post but didn’t participate, their characters are dropped from the post so their posting numbers aren’t inflated. (This can be turned off from Site Settings.)
- Nova now has a built-in Rules page (in the main section instead of the sim section like SMS) that you can edit the content from Site Messages.
- In the My Saved Entries tab on the Writing Control Panel, hovering over the user icon will show you all the characters involved in that post.
- In the My Saved Entries tab on the Writing Control Panel, hovering over the lock icon (when a post is locked) will show you who owns the lock on that post and how long ago it was given.
- Several genres now ship with Kuro-RPG’s new revised rank sets that use a standard height and width. As more rank sets are converted to this new format, we’ll be offering them on AnodyneXtras.
This update to Nova 2 addresses a wide range of minor issues found in the system. In particular, manifest display issues, errors thrown from some controllers, the milestone report displaying incorrectly in certain situations, orphaned data, the Who’s Online listing, and character bio image galleries were all addressed. In addition, we’ve removed the social interaction tools from the image modal pop-up and made some tweaks to post locking to address a few nagging issues.
We are aware of some users having issues with uploading PNG images and are currently looking in to the cause of this issue.
You can download the latest version of Nova 2 at the Nova site.
